Carol vernallis' theory on music videos
carol vernallis observed the editing of music videos combined with the camerawork in great detail.
what she found was edits in music videos occur more frequently than in film, carol also found that the editing of a music video seemed to have a rhythmic basis closely connected to the beat of the song

CAROL VERNALLIS' MAIN POINTS OF OBSERVATION
- the usual structure of continuity editing i.e match cuts which make the transitions between cuts seem seamless, are broken in order to draw attention to what is on the screen
- edits used in the music video may be really obvious to draw attention to themselves such as the use of slow motion, obvious edits, wipes and special effects, these make the video more visually pleasing
- many close ups to draw attention to something ( an artist, signifying object)
- jump cuts are used frequently
- a master shot (a shot which is always returned to , this may be during the chorus of the song) is frequently used to give the video a structure i.e verse chorus verse chorus
- and finally the camera may move in time with the music i.e every 2-4 beats the speed of the cuts depends on the change of the beat
