mainstream VS indie

Being in Mainstream bands come with its pro's and con's, just like being in an indie and target based band also has pros and cons.

overall i believe if the artists main aim of the choice of career is to be successful, popular and rich then they shoud go  mainstream, for example one direction which are signed to syco records and columbia records receive huge amounts of funding these record labels have worldwide successful artists signed such as cher lloyd, olly murs,james arthur, beyonce and Adele, so its no surprise one direction are also signed. However if the artists main aim is to be creative and have a target audience of thoughful people who enjoy indie and range from different age groups then they should go indie like the band 'Lanterns on a Lake' who are signed to an independent record lable 'Bella Union' who have signed various independent artists such as Landshapes, John grant, Marissa Nadler and cashier NO.9.
